From spam to slam

Chicago graduate student Kristin Thomas has found a creative way to recycle her spam e-mail by constructing poems using only the subject lines of the unwanted correspondence. “I don’t like to get angry, and I was starting to get angry,” Thomas says. “One day I was looking at all of this stuff in my inbox—something like 2,000 pieces of e-mail, none of it from anyone I knew. When I was scanning the subject lines, something caught my eye, and it just sounded like slam poetry. And I wasn’t angry any more. It was a peaceful way to resolve the issue—because spam isn’t going away.”

While I’m still waiting for my share of fifty (50) million dollars from my investment partner in Nigeria, Thomas “repurposes” her email headers and posts them on her website. In an interview in the Chicago Sun-Times, she shared one of her favorites:

“it counts”

3 Chicks in one night

(25 mg did the trick.)

3 hand made silk ties

3 dollars, each

4 out of 5 doctors recommend

5 financial tips for grads

6 times the action

7 minutes in heaven!

15 minutes of waiting and then

36 hours of pleasure!
